"Designers in Residence" is an international scholarship programme run by the city of Pforzheim for young designers from the fields of jewellery, fashion, accessories and industrial design. Since 2016, the city of Pforzheim has organised the scholarship annually in cooperation with the Design Center Baden-Württemberg and Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences. During the three-month scholarship, they are given the opportunity to work intensively on a project independently of their studies or professional activities.
In the exhibition from 12 September until 25 October 2018 at the Design Centre Baden-Württemberg, the scholarship holders will show the projects they have worked on during these three months.
James Boock, an industrial designer from New Zealand, is showing an interactive installation about the influence of artificial intelligence, in particular the Chinese social credit system, on our everyday lives. Israeli jewellery designer Avital Chalemsky translates emotions into jewellery, while fashion designer Ágnes Várnai's "Glue in Reality" project provides insights into today's quasi-religions: with the help of augmented reality, which is accessible via an app on smartphones or tablets, visitors encounter representatives of these religions, such as the gluten shaman or the priest of veganism.
