Topic: Crowdfunding in the creative industries using the practical example of somskat
Anyone who wants to turn a business idea into reality and set up a company usually faces the challenge of financing first. Crowdfunding offers an alternative to traditional financing options in the search for capital and supporters, especially for creative professionals: Crowdfunding is the term used to describe access to funding for projects or products with the help of a community of supporters, the crowd.
Crowdfunding can also be used as a marketing tool: Good campaigns generate attention, help build networks and offer an opportunity to receive valuable feedback on products or projects. At Creative After Work, Nisha Munzig, crowdfunding expert at Stuttgart Media University, will explain what exactly crowdfunding is, what types of crowdfunding there are and how a successful campaign should be structured. Charlotte Schatz, founder of the slow fashion label somskat, will then give an insight into the practical side of things: Charlotte Schatz launched her first successful crowdfunding campaign on Startnext in 2019, which came third in the MikroCrowd Contest. She was accompanied by Nisha Munzig during the contest. Together, they want to report on the crowdfunding campaign at the Creative After Work in Pforzheim and show how creative professionals can use crowdfunding to successfully found a company.
Nisha Munzig currently works at the Generator Startup Centre at Stuttgart Media University. There she is the contact person for both students and start-ups from all over Baden-Württemberg on the subject of crowdfunding. In addition to workshops and lectures, the focus is also on individual support during a crowdfunding campaign as part of the MikroCrowd funding programme. Nisha Munzig previously studied Management (MA) at the University of Hohenheim and completed her training to become a certified crowdfunding specialist at the beginning of 2019.
Charlotte Schatz is the founder of the sustainable fashion label somskat. After completing her bachelor's degree in fashion management, she worked in product and brand management at HUGO BOSS before founding her own company with the help of crowdfunding in 2019. Together with her business partner Maximilian Fesseler, she implemented a campaign plan that led to the successful start-up financing of the label. somskat is dedicated to resource-saving production based on customer demand. At the same time, Charlotte is completing her Master's degree in Creative Communication and Brand Management at Pforzheim University.
