The Alfons Kern Tower
is the stairwell of the Alfons Kern School, which was demolished in 2010. The building was inaugurated in 1953 as a new building for the trade school that was destroyed in the war. Alongside other trades, watchmakers were also trained there. As part of an extension in 1957, it was given the name Alfons Kern School in memory of the Pforzheim city architect.
Thanks to the listed sundial, which is located on the south side and was designed in 1956 by Pforzheim artists Wolfgang Kappis and Rolf Gröger as a visible symbol of the tradition of clockmaking in Pforzheim, the tower has been preserved and is now a space for design and art.
It is located directly opposite the EMMA - Kreativzentrum Pforzheim, in Theaterstraße 21, 75175 Pforzheim.
The Alfons Kern Tower can be used as a public exhibition or project space all year round.
