Topographies of Delusional Immortality (Topographies of the Delusion of Immortality)

Topographies of Delusional Immortality explores the symbolic representations of power and the constructed structures that reflect humanity's patriarchal obsession with permanence and rebellion against time. This is explored through monuments, plinths and mausoleums - structures that embody stability, permanence and endurance. These forms bear witness to man's endeavours to combat the forces of nature and gain mastery over time. They are reminiscent of the ancient alchemists' quest for immortality through the transformation of base metals into gold. From an anthropocentric point of view, the sculptures refer to Frankenstein's creatures, which were "brought to life" by electric current. In this work, the interplay of linen fibres and metal symbolises a reversal of traditional material hierarchies. Through an alchemical fusion, rigid structures are transformed into flowing and pliable forms. This transformation invites the viewer to rethink what is considered valuable and durable.
