Design Pforzheim - seating furniture for the forecourt of the Alfons Kern Tower

Immediate measure: square design

The Pforzheim city centre mission statement and the utilisation concept for the city centre were adopted in February. Together with you, six locations are to be revitalised and designed with exciting interim uses. The themes of the mission statement, the special features and strengths of Pforzheim, will be addressed.
One of these places is the forecourt of the Alfons Kern Tower. Since the demolition of the Alfons Kern School, it has been living an „in-between existence“ and is not used nearly as much as it should be. We would like to revitalise the square together with you. The aim is to create a nice place for you to spend time, a link between Enz, Alfons-Kern-Turm and EMMA. Conventional park benches do not do this square justice. We need you to turn this space into a place to spend time with unusual seating options!

What is it about?

We are looking for special seating furniture for the square area. This can either be customised to the location or used flexibly in the city. It is important that the furniture is as immobile as possible on the square due to its size and weight. In addition, the furniture should be suitable for as many different users as possible, ideally even offering a simple play area for children. The aim is to create high-quality seating that is as economical as possible. The designs should also reflect the design of the city of Pforzheim.
The winning teams will have to realise their designs in a workshop week in March 2019 (the week from 11 March to 15 March 2019 is currently planned). You will be supported by a master carpenter.
