Topic: Mixed reality as a tool in automotive/industrial design

The design process for a car is complex, with a wide variety of information and requirements flowing in and having to be implemented. Visualisation is essential here: with the help of true-to-scale clay models, the designers can check the effect of the individual design elements, discuss them with the engineers, for example, and make changes. Until now, this has been a time-consuming and costly process. Many car manufacturers therefore now rely on mixed reality technologies, such as the Microsoft HoloLens: additional elements have to be
no longer have to be added to the real model, but can be attached virtually and shared and discussed directly with other observers. In a technology partnership with a sports car manufacturer from Stuttgart, the Pforzheim-based companies medialesson and Meyle+Müller have developed mixed reality apps for the design process with the Microsoft HoloLens. In addition to a brief introduction to the topic of mixed reality, Philipp Bauknecht, founder and Managing Director of medialesson, will provide an insight into the challenges, realisation and outcome of the project and demonstrate the Microsoft HoloLens live.

Philipp Bauknecht is the founder and managing director of medialesson GmbH. He helps his clients with the design, architecture, development and operation of user-friendly apps. He also teaches interface design at Pforzheim University, appears as a speaker at conferences and meetups and organises hackathons. Bauknecht is co-founder and spokesperson for the Pforzheim Media and IT Initiative, which promotes Pforzheim as an IT centre. He was selected as one of 100 young creative talents by the European Union and the Committee of the Regions and is co-founder of EF.EU, the European Forum for Usability. Philipp Bauknecht was named a Most Valuable Professional (MVP) by Microsoft and was accepted into the Microsoft Regional Director Programme in 2017.
